Wedding stationery terminology
Save the dates
9-12 months before the wedding
Save the dates are perfect for giving your guests advance notice of the wedding, particularly if you are planning to get married abroad. The information usually on a save the date card will be: couple’s names, wedding date and vanue or town of the wedding.
Wedding Invitations
2-3 months before the wedding
Invitations are the star of the stationery show, they set the tone of the event and contain all the information your guests need to attend the wedding. Try to keep the main invitation clear and to the point, any extra information can go on separate cards.
RSVP Cards
At the same time as the invitations
RSVPs should be due at least one month before the wedding. This is where you can ask your guests about their dietary requirements, menu choices or accommodation information. Some couples prefer to have an email address to RSVP to on the main invitation instead of a separate RSVP card.
Itinerary Cards
At the same time as the invitations
Particularly helpful for wedding celebrations that extend over a few days or weddings abroad.
Information Cards
At the same time as the invitations
An extra information card can be useful for all the extra information that doesn’t fit on the main invitation. Local hotels, transport information, taxi contact details, dress code, whether children are invited or not and gift arrangements.
Evening invitations
At the same time as the invitations or later
Evening invitations are similar to your main invites, but they will be sent to the guests you want to invite to the evening reception only. They usually match the design of the main invitations, with just some tweaks to the wording. They can be sent at the same time as your other invites, or at as later date.
Rehearsal Dinner Invitations
At the same time as the invitations or later
The rehearsal dinner takes place the night before the big day, after the final ceremony rehearsal. It’s an intimate celebration with the wedding party members and close family and friends.
Thank You Cards
Up to 3 moths after the wedding
Thank you cards are a special way to thank your guests for sharing your big day with you. Don’t forget to send one to anyone that sent you a gift, even if they weren’t able to attend the wedding.
